The day has come: Abe and the Mudokon’s of Oddworld are back. More than 10 years have past since the debut of the series, and the last entry on a PlayStation console. Now, via an official press release by Gravity Crash creators ‘Just Add Water’, confirmed the team to be working on a new, next gen Oddworld title. Surprisingly, it seems this is not an announcement concerning the start of production; creation is said to have started a year ago. “It’s with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants,” says the press release. “Whilst we cannot go into specifics right now,” continues the bulletin, “we can tell you that over the coming weeks and months we will be announcing these exciting projects starring all of your favourite Oddworld characters.” Just Add Water seems like the perfect fit to spearhead the rebirth of this amazing series, and Stewart Gilray, the teams Managing Director, seems more than thrilled to be working so close with the original creators. “To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic, “It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.” Oddworld debuted back in 1997 on the original PlayStation receiving not only rave critical acclaim , but a huge cult following. Abe, the titled character, became one of the PlayStation’s unofficial mascots, his likeness appearing along side other notable PlayStation figures like Crash and Spyro. The developers originally stated they wanted to turn the Oddworld series into a 5-game ‘pentalogy’, and that three of the titles released in the series, Abe’s Exoddus, Stranger’s Wrath, and Oddworld Adventures were bonus games, not to be counted towards the main series. No word yet on where this new title fits in the grand scheme. [ Source ]
