Even though the PS3 is now a fully 3D capable console and Valve boss Gabe Newell said the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be the best “on any console,” those two will not be happening together any time soon. Only time will tell what Valve has to bring to the PlayStation table. After vocally denouncing the console on multiple occasions, Valve is committed to making reparations for the PlayStation 3 debacle that was The Orange Box. With an interview with CVG Valve Marketing Director Doug Lombardi expressed feelings that the studio wants to right its wrongs. ”[Having a dedicated PS3 team] allows us to build our PS3 products internally, which we feel is critical for delivering the highest quality version of our products.” When asked about 3D support and the PlayStation Move for Portal 2, Lombardi confirmed that the game is being built without those features in mind. “[Move and 3D] will have to wait for Portal 3 or another title.” Although it’s just a figure of speech and not even to be taken as a teaser announcement, it does mean a Portal 3 could be possible down the line. It all depends on if the narrative allows for a sequel, or more importantly, the sales. Slightly off-topic however, was potentially a big question. When asked if Valve has any plans to bring their award-winning Left 4 Dead franchise to the PS3, now that don’t despise the system, Lombardi commented “Who knows what the future will bring?” While it’s not an outright confirmation nor a denial, it seems for sure that Valve is loving their new relationship with Sony. Among the first games shown running on Nintendo’s latest handheld, the Nintendo 3DS was Super Street Fighter IV. Many PlayStation fans were left wondering as to why no PlayStation portable version of SSFIV was announced, seeing as how Capcom put the original Street Fighter IV on the iPhone. Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono revealed to Famitsu why this is so and might prove even further why the PSP 2 needs to happen sooner than later. This weeks newest issue of Famitsu features an interview with Mr. Ono and he simply stated that the PSP nor the DS could handle a portable version of Super Street Fighter IV. Which begs the question…why not? Capcom decided to do a iPhone version of SFIV, and seeing as how Capcom loves to port their games to every console ever made, why no love for the PSP? This also brings up another question..whatever happened to the PSP version of Resident Evil that was announced last E3? While the rest of the gaming world is enamored with the 3DS, perhaps it is time for Sony to unveil the PSP2. I mean, what can they lose at this point? Sure the PSP sells well in their homeland of Japan, but elsewhere, the PSP easily ranks last among sales and it’s disappointing if you ask me. The PSP can do so much more than the DS could ever dream of and has a system full of stellar games, yet Sony doesn’t lower their standards by letting loads of crappy shovel-ware flood their handheld system. ‘Nintendo seal of quality’ my ass! Insomniac Games is well-known around the world for the PlayStation heritage that the company stems from. Although the developers at Insomniac recently announced that they’re breaking ties off of PlayStation exclusivity, their contributions with Spyro, Ratchet & Clank and more have had a huge impact on the platform to say the least. Thankfully, judging by the latest comments, Insomniac employees look ready to reveal the next addition to their remarkable game record. Insomniac Games currently has a multiplatform title in development which is on the verge of being announced. When asked about whether or not the team from Insomniac will be at PAX , Insomniac replied via Twitter stating: yes – we have very exciting plans for PAX we are going to announce soon! Later, Insomniac posted the following in regards to the unannounced title: Sounds like the other IG (Irrational Games) is revealing their next game in August 11th… Makes us want to get in on the fun! It’s all but confirmed now that not only will Insomniac Games be at PAX 2010 but the unannounced title will be revealed in the time leading up to the convention at the beginning of September. Insomniac has a great track record of memorable titles , so this is a great opportunity for the team to add yet another exciting title to the 2011 calendar year. Maybe it’s a multiplatform Resistance 3 title? Or perhaps even a new IP? Whatever the case, we should know within the next month, and hopefully the announcement will be made with an awesome trailer to drool over. What do you want to see Insomniac Games announce? Crytek , famous graphics gurus of such games as Crysis , were originally PC developers. They have since branched out to consoles, and while they have announced Codename: Kingdoms exclusively for the 360, that does not mean they are not still interested in developing an exclusive for the PS3 as well… In speaking with CVG, Crytek President Cervat Yerli mentioned the possibility of working with Sony on an exclusive title sometime in the future: “Sony is a partner that we would definitely love to work with. A [PS3 exclusive] is something we considered before – we talked about it a lot, but for reasons of portfolio or timing in the past it didn’t work out. But that doesn’t mean in the future it wouldn’t work.” Mr. Yerli also mentioned that originally he was not in favor of working on a console-exclusive title, but something changed and now he is obviously open to the idea. Would you like to see a PS3-exclusive title by Crytek in the future? Given their track record, who wouldn’t?
