Of all the original IPs that Square Enix created during their glory days on the PlayStation 2, none can compare to the greatness that is the Kingdom Hearts series. When the idea for the series was first announced, many passed it off as a crossover that would never work. Little did they know it would become one of the company’s most popular franchises ever. The next ‘official’ entry in the series, KH: Birth by Sleep which is actually a prequel to the first game and will (hopefully) explain some of the convoluted storyline of the series. Square Enix isn’t pulling any punches as have recently revealed that KH:BBS will be getting a Special Edition, but it looks like our European mates have the upper hand this time. For those of you diehard European Kingdom Hearts fans who are willing to shell out a few more dollars (or pounds in this case), you will be receiving the game, a special edition case, a 48-page ” The Art of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep” artbook AND exclusive BBS art prints. Not too shabby, eh? Also, I think we can all imagine there will be some crazy ‘after the credits’ video teasing you about the NEXT Kingdom Hearts game that probably won’t hit until the PlayStation 4, knowing SE’s track record. Ugh. If this is announced for the US, we shall let you know. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep arrives exclusively on the PSP (Square Enix WON’T release a digital copy for the PSP go for some reason) on September 7th in the US and September 9th in EU. Explodemon , if you don’t remember, was originally announced over a year ago back in April 2009 for PlayStation Network, PC, and WiiWare. It was scheduled for release in Q4 2009. Since that announcement, we haven’t heard a peep out of it. Today, Curve Studios has finally brought the game back and has announced a Q4 2010 release date – for the PlayStation Network version, at least. The press release makes no mentions of the originally announced Wii and PC versions. Explodemon! is a 2.5D platformer/action game influenced by classic Japanese SNES games. It’ll have players solving various physics-based puzzles, self-destructing enemies, and flying through the air. “We’re really excited to finally be able to reveal Explodemon! to the world,” explains design director Jonathan Biddle, from a blast-proof bunker somewhere below the surface of Nibia. “The game is chock full of gameplay nuggets carefully mined from the greatest titles ever to grace our joysticks. Whether you’re experiencing its intense combat, head-scratching puzzles, or classic platforming, you’ll find we’ve combined all of these elements into an addictive and elegantly balanced package.” Look out for Explodemon! on PlayStation Network later this year. It looks as though a new Move game has been discovered but this time around it will be for the PlayStation Network. Flight Control HD is a port of the popular iPhone game, and while it supports the Move, it can be played with a good ol’ fashioned DualShock 3. Not much else is known about the game, but if you’ve played the iPhone version you have an idea of what to expect. Flight Control HD will be landing on the PSN September 15th in Europe and Asia but has not found a runway yet in North America. However, never despair, while the NA version hasn’t been announced that doesn’t mean it isn’t a possibility. Look out for news regarding a North American version of the first Move-supported PSN title in the near future. [ Source ]

The soundtrack for EA’s upcoming FPS blockbuster, Medal of Honor , is slowly being compiled, and it seems that the company is going for an all-new type of sound by bringing in one of the few rock bands that can not only rock your socks off, but move you emotionally at the same time. EA has just announced a partnership with none-other than the hard-hitting Linkin Park to help skyrocket its Medal of Honor franchise to levels yet unknown. Aside from being a superb group of performers, Linkin Park is certainly not shy when it comes to putting together tracks that inspire and move audiences. The group has enjoyed tremendous success with their tracks “What I’ve Done” and “New Divide” , which were featured in Transformers 1 and 2. Their newest song “The Catalyst” accompanies the latest trailer for Medal of Honor, which we have here for your viewing pleasure. EA’s Steve Schnur commented on the partnership, stating the following: “I’ve personally known the band since 1999, and they have always been an intensely creative group who understand the power of video games and have wanted to explore and expand the medium’s possibilities. ‘The Catalyst’ is one of the most anticipated tracks of the year, and the combination of this new song and Joe Hahn’s distinctive visual dynamic re-sets the bar in our commitment to bringing together landmark EA games with artists whose talents go far beyond music.” This is certainly a very different way to go about composing the game’s soundtrack compared to the route that Activision’s Modern Warfare series decided to take with the orchestral approach of Hanz Zimmer . Either way, this seems like a winning combination with a game that is shaping up to be quite epic, along with an equally impressive band behind it. The video for ‘The Catalyst’ will hit the airwaves on August 1st, with the song’s full release coming one day later. So, which style do you prefer? Would you rather go with the stirring orchestral compositions of Hanz Zimmer or the gritty, emotional, hard-hitting style that resonates with Linkin Park? Do you think this was a good move for EA?
