While the surprise E3 announcement blew gamers away, now that Twisted Metal has been let out of the bag, people are already complaining. Even with a ton of information given out from Jaffe himself, gamers are all worried. We should take a hint from Jaffe and settle the… *eh hem* heck…down. On his blog update, David Jaffe has vocally addressed the fact the new Twisted Metal may not have the most recognizable characters of the franchise. He just wants you to remember that characters do not equal gameplay. “Please keep in mind this Twisted Metal single player and co-op will be more varied than ANY TM you’ve ever played. We are NOT doing GTA style missions or vehicle escorts and such BUT we DO have mechanics laid on top of the core campaign deathmatch that adds to the play varied so you don’t get bored. We also have more bosses than any TM game….So while you may be disappointed by the fact that there are currently no plans for Marcus Kane or Bloody Mary or No Face, please know that the one player/campaign game you DO get is going to be the best one we’ve ever made.” Jaffe is very vocal about the support and input of the fans. He’d like to put in everything from every game, but you have to think in the realm of possibility. An incredibly idea exists and being able to implement it are two completely different things. “We hear you. We talked about it at breakfast today and discussed possible ways to address the concern. Can we make those adjustments to the game in the time we have left? Not sure, no idea. But for those who respectfully voiced your issue, it is appreciated, the development and publishing team is aware of your issue, and we are looking to see if there is anything we an do about it. No promises at all. But just so ya know, ya’ll are being heard. And it’s appreciated.” So just relax everybody! This is David Jaffe we’re talking about. He knows what he’s doing. [ Source / Via ]

When people think of the PlayStation brand and the many series that have best represented it over the years, Twisted Metal is one of the first to come to mind. The series revolutionized multiplayer mayhem with its absolute car destruction, over the top characters, and deadly attacks. There have been a total of 9 other titles in the the Twisted Metal universe, that is until David Jaffe, the creator of the Twisted Metal franchise, finally revealed the 10th Twisted Metal title in the series at E3 this past June. We got to try the freshly announced Twisted Metal at E3, but when will gamers get to try it out? In a recent interview with 1up.com , Twisted Metal and God of War creator, David Jaffe was asked if there would be a multiplayer beta before the game’s 2011 release. To which he replied: I don’t know. I mean, certainly we’re going to do a beta for such a multiplayer and online-heavy game, but in terms of if it’s going to be a public beta, or if it’s going to be more of a semi-private beta, which is more… Eat Sleep Play, Sony, some members of the press, or some hardcore fans. There’s a great website called Twisted Metal Alliance — those guys are the hardest of the hardcore Twisted Metal players. We’re definitely going to want to get them in if we can get their opinions. But in terms of if it’s pure public or a bit of the semi-private, that’s still to be determined. Given the fact that Twisted Metal fans have been waiting since the launch of the PlayStation 3 for a true next generation release in the series, a multiplayer beta for Twisted Metal would be much sought after.

When God of War first launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, it garnered amazing critical and commercial success. It also, undoubtedly, gave birth to one of the most iconic and well-known PlayStation heroes (or mascots if you will) in the form of the god-slaying Kratos. The bloodthirsty character has been decapitating, disemboweling, and inflicting harm to several mythological beasts on every platform in the PlayStation family for many years. But have you ever wondered how Kratos actually came about? The man who created him, the venerable David Jaffe, tells us where the inspiration behind the mighty PlayStation hero came from. David Jaffe, who’s currently working on the latest installment in the Twisted Metal series for the PS3, revealed the inspiration behind Kratos in a recent interview : “It took a long time to figure out what Kratos would look like, and ultimately we took inspiration form Edward Norton in American History X, when he played a Nazi. There’s this scene in which the cops arrest him and you just see how buffed and built he’s gotten. I showed that to the artist and I said, ‘Okay, that sense of power and aggression that you just see in his face, can we somehow take that, the essence of what he’s exuding, and somehow turn that into a character that fits into this Greek mythology world?” So, there it is. Kratos was born via Edward Norton. Now, if you’d kindly excuse me, I’ll go watch American History X now.

David Jaffe and his team at Eat Sleep Play recently dropped the bomb with one of this year’s biggest surprises , Twisted Metal for the PlayStation 3. It has been known for years now that the team has been working on something behind the curtain, but the secret was held tightly until the official announcement. However, that doesn’t mean that the team has been working on the same game since the beginning of their current development cycle. One of David Jaffe’s latest blog posts has revealed that the current format for the upcoming Twisted Metal isn’t based on the original design. According to Jaffe, about two years ago the game concept was based in an apocalyptic world, but not everyone was in agreement for the setting. Jaffe’s blog post states: “There was a time- 2 years ago about- that the new PS3 Twisted Metal was going to be set in an apocalyptic wasteland. Co-Director Scott Campbell was not in favor as he doesn’t dig the whole post apocalypse vibe. So we nixed it.” Twisted Metal’s upcoming PS3 iteration is set in a similar setting to the original two games with it’s dark, modern setting. Many have asked why the psychotic setting of Twisted Metal: Black was done away with, and in reply the team has stated that they’re aiming for a Teen rating to supplement a larger audience. Moreover, it’s interesting to think about what could’ve been with an apocalyptic environment, and thankfully according to the same blog post, Eat Sleep Play will be showing some throwaway content from Twisted Metal: Apocalypse this Friday at San Diego Comic Con.
